Speaking of Clover.

New Feature: List Page

It’s here! We’ve just added our brand new, multi-functioning list page to every Clover site.

The new list page can do quite a few things… I’ve created this quick walkthrough to give you an overview of how to create and use your brand new feature:

As I mentioned before… This page is so multi-functioning. We originally started it as a “Staff Page”, but realized quickly that with the simple concept of being able to create any-sized, as-long-as-you-want list, there is a whole world of uses for this new page.

Here are some we came up with. Hopefully these ideas help kickstart you in using this awesome tool!

  • Staff Page
  • Product Page (with links to a shopping cart – possibly to your Big Cartel or Shopify cart)
  • Online Portfolio
  • Restaurant/Cafe Menu
  • Photo Albums (Maybe linking to Flickr)
  • List of Services
  • Discography (List out your albums with links to iTunes to purchase)
  • List of Social Media Items

Those are some quick ideas… If you have some other uses for the new tool, be sure to comment with them below.

Enjoy!

This is great!! We were really hoping for this! Thank you Clover!!

One question: How can we access this? I just tried to change the layout for our staff page, but dont see the list page as a layout option.

I am so excited that the List Page is now active! We’ve been waiting for it! Thanks Clover!! I am impressing more and more colleagues with how slick and easy you have made our website transitions!

THANK YOU!!! So excited about this feature!!! You all rock my face off. (Okay not really… maybe that was crossing the line a little.) You are all swell. (what is it 1950 Graham come on…) You are the cat’s pajamas. (I’m just going to leave it at that.)

I’m using this for Featured Events and love that you can link to the pic to direct to another page or site for further event details. I will be using lists also for our staff, elders and deacons pages. Thanks for lists!

Alan Williams said on October 30th, 2010:

How great! A new tool even before our ministry launches. I can already think of a dozen uses for it.
One improvement request – Can we have the page name displayed on the list page, as is common on other pages?

Ben said on October 30th, 2010:

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments. It’s always great to make things that people want and use! Amazingly, in the six hours after we announced the new feature, you all made 1650 items on 350 new list pages.

Ben said on October 30th, 2010:

Alan – sorry about the page name not showing up. For some of the designs, we put the page title on there, but for most others we chose not to, simply because the page looked better without it. Which site design do you have?

Alan Williams said on October 30th, 2010:

We are going to be using the Lakeview template, Ben. We like the home-like warmth that it presents.

Ben said on October 30th, 2010:

Cool… yeah, I think we decided that Lakeview’s list page would be distracting if it had the page title and an extra line. And also we were trying to maximize the amount of space for the list items. I think since the page title shows up in different places on the different layouts, it shouldn’t confuse people that the title isn’t there on the list page. I hope you don’t mind either :-)

We really do put a lot of effort into each site design. (and that’s partly why it takes us a while to release new features!)

Shaheen Eydgahi said on October 30th, 2010:

Fantastic. Super easy to use, just like everything from Clover! You guys are amazing! Now all I’m waiting for is the form page and my life (ok…website) will be complete…

Kathy said on October 31st, 2010:

I have been building our new site in Clover for a few weeks now and one area we had to work around was listing all of our churches with their pertinent info. This is the perfect solution! I wish there was a little more flexibility in formatting though. Other than that, this is a great addition and I can’t wait for the forms!!!

Carroll said on October 31st, 2010:

Very cool! You are doing great things for my reputation at work. Once the forms page is up, I will probably not be able to get in the door, what with my swell head!! LOL! Great job! Thanks and keep it up!!!

Adam said on October 31st, 2010:

Awesome Job! Love this feature. I have a question… Is there any possible way in the near future that you might be able to add a feature to add social networking icons (especially on your homepage) that can link to your specific pages within those sites? (Like what you guys have done at the upper right part of the “Speaking of Clover” blog.) Just wondering. Thanks!!! You guys are awesome!!!

Bill said on November 1st, 2010:

Thanks for the feature :) We are looking forward to using it!

Couple questions:
#1 Can we have a background image behind the list?
#2 Can we link list items to a page that does not appear elsewhere in the site menuing navigation?

Ben said on November 1st, 2010:

Hey Adam – We are actually planning a feature to do exactly what you mentioned. It’s already designed and we’ll be working on the programming for it soon!

Ben said on November 1st, 2010:

Bill – Sorry, we don’t have a way to put a background image up. And we also don’t have hidden pages… for every new thing we add, we have to balance it with the fact that it makes the whole Greenhouse a little bit harder to use and more intimidating to someone who isn’t tech savvy. So with that filter, we try to keep everything as easy as possible.

Megan said on November 1st, 2010:

Hi Ben,
When trying to use the list page feature for our staff, the first title appears in white, making the text nearly impossible to read. Is there a way to change this w/o having to change our primary background color (which is at the moment, necessarily, white).
Thanks so much!

Jim said on November 1st, 2010:

Hey Megan-

You’re totally right. That was an oversight in our testing… Sorry about that!
We’re working on it right now, so that it will work for any color you are using as your background color.

It should be fixed in the next few minutes.

Jim said on November 1st, 2010:

(That last comment was for those who have the Pinnacle site design, with a white background)

Jesse said on November 1st, 2010:

First of all THANK YOU! Been hangin’ for this feature…among many!

I’ve just noticed now, that any pages that have a scroll bar can be scrolled with a mouse scroll wheel or double-finger scroll on the Mac touchpad etc…it seemed that before this update that wasn’t possible!

Did that feature come with the List Page update or did I miss it earlier?

Thank again guys…Clover Sites are a truly powerful and much-valued tool for our Church!

Ben said on November 1st, 2010:

Hey Jesse, you know what… we actually programmed that feature in about two years ago, but unfortunately it only works on some browsers. And those browsers seem to change all the time. Sometimes they add support for the mouse wheel in flash and sometimes they break it (presumably on accident). I wish it was more standard, because I use the mouse wheel constantly!

Megan said on November 2nd, 2010:

Hi Ben,
Looks like the color is working. Thanks so much!

Carolyn said on November 3rd, 2010:

Nice! Can’t wait to start using it!!

Amira said on November 4th, 2010:

We love the list page and are starting to build many of our various program and staff pages on it. THANK YOU!

One suggestion, is there any way Clover might be thinking about adding a description feature that we can add to to the top of a list page? I would love to be able to put an overview paragraph on top before listing programs/staff bios.
Thanks so much for your consideration!

Jeff Day said on November 8th, 2010:

The list is great news! I recall that you did not have a way to process orders via credit card. Has that changed?

Tyler said on November 8th, 2010:

Thanks for the list page! We’ve been waiting to use this since we heard it was coming out. We use ours for a staff list, but there is no page title available on sunset. (I noticed the comment earlier by Alan that Lakeview doesn’t have the option either.)

It would be great if there was an option in the dashboard settings to show or not show like you do for the shadow behind the logo.

For that matter, it would be neat to be able to tweak some settings in the dashboard settings on a per page basis. Like if I wanted a specific page to have the images more or less transparent, there could be an option within the page’s settings to override the master site settings in the dashboard.

Thanks again for listening to your customers! I’m definitely a converted clover fanboy.

Mary said on November 8th, 2010:

Hey Jeff,

You’ll need to use a another resource for your online payments/donations, but super easy to do! We’re happy to help if you need it -

Mary said on November 8th, 2010:

Hey Tyler,

Glad to hear you’ve converted:) Thanks for the ideas. We will definitely keep em in mind!

Patrick said on November 10th, 2010:

Hey guys, love our new site woodfordcommunity.org

With the list page, is it possible to have a photo in the background as well? All of our other pages have photo background capabilities, so the list sort of sticks out as a bit bland for now. Thanks for all you do!

Mary said on November 10th, 2010:

Hey Patrick,

Not really a possibility at this point. I think we’re trying to keep the design super clean with this feature . . but we appreciate the feedback!

Glad to hear you’re loving your site.

Eric said on November 20th, 2010:

Hi, love the list feature. I don’t know if this would be an extension to LIST or another type of page, is it possible to have a “sign-up” feature that other users could see? For example, we’re sponsoring a family for Christmas… it would be good if we could post their needs, and users could select or “check off” items they’ll be buying. Another use would be signups for potluck lunches, meals for sick families, etc.

Love Clover Sites!

eric

Ben said on November 23rd, 2010:

Hey Eric –

We’re actually making another feature that will serve all those purposes. It will be a “forms” page, where you can make your own custom forms for your people to fill out. It’s going to be some time before we launch it because it’s a huge project, but it’s the next thing that we’re working on.

Ann Cranford said on November 23rd, 2010:

Terrific job! – we are looking forward to adapting the list page to many areas. And can’t wait to see the forms page. You all are really moving forward with great ideas!

Caleb said on December 6th, 2010:

Great job! I agree with the comments about a “title” on the List Page. At least make this an option for people to have.

Also, would it be possible to link the list photos to a page within the site that would not have to appear in the column navigation? To have floating pages? This would be a great feature.

Mary said on December 6th, 2010:

Hey Caleb,

Thanks for the note. You can definitely link to another page on your site, but we don’t currently have the option for “floating”, or invisible pages.
