Clover Gives: The Well

Another three months has come and gone and we just had the privilege or writing a check for ServantWorks and their ministry The Well. If you purchased a site from us in July, August or September, we took your first $20 hosting payment and donated it to them. I’m personally really excited about this, because I wholeheartedly believe in their organization and their mission. They’ve been doing an amazing job of rescuing women from prostitution in Thailand, and training them in skills to help them become self-sufficient.

For the next quarter, we’ll be supporting IJM: The International Justice Mission. They are a human rights agency with hands in many issues ranging from Child Trafficking to Police Brutality. Essentially, they work to rescue, protect and speak for people around the world who have very little power. We’ll be writing another post about IJM in the next week or so, but we just wanted to give you a heads up.

If you’d like more information about either organization, follow the links and see how you can get involved.

So glad to hear that you are supporting great causes like The Well. We have taken teams to Bangkok to work with them twice and know their work well. Consider our work in the future. We are currently building a school for marginalized Batwa (Twa) pygmy children in Gihara, Rwanda and can use some help getting it started. We plan to open January 2011. What a blessing for you guys to be successful and supporting ministry as part of your business model.

Your donation has gone a long way in Bangkok to support the work we are about and we are extremely grateful.

Keep up the good work and we look forward to telling everyone about the super cool platform you have created.

It is good that you guys are able to help others, but you all are about the marketing. This comes off as a marketing effort, not as coming from Christian character. The public announcing of good will is more typical of a secular corporate giver.

As Christians, be careful not to boast about your good works when others do not see them. The Bible is clear about that. It doesn’t come off well in this community…let alone with God.

I’m not your judge, but as a brother, it’s distasteful.

Hey Christian –

Thanks for the honest feedback. We actually have tried to be really careful with how we talk about these donations. We truly don’t intend them for marketing, which is why we purposely don’t mention anything about Clover Gives on cloversites.com before you a buy a site.

The reason that we talk about them isn’t to make ourselves look good, but to encourage others and to let everyone share in the fact that together we’re able to help these organizations. And especially for organizations like The Well (its run by a friend of mine who doesn’t have much publicity) we like being able to raise awareness from the platform that we have.

Your point is well taken, though, and I think it’s always good for us to remember to examine our motivation.
