Speaking of Clover.

VIDEO ON YOUR SITE!!

Ahhh yeah. It’s here.

After a long, grueling couple of months, we officially have released the ability to embed video in your Clover site. I’m pretty sure this is going to be a national holiday… At least in the 93063.

This really has been the biggest request since we launched back in May, and we’re proud to get it in your hands. Rachel and Alison both estimated that they answered around 15-20 questions a day about when the video feature would be ready… They hated having to say it’s “coming soon”. They are probably the happiest of all.

So, here’s your options:

1. You can upload any video from your computer (we’ll convert it automatically so it loads fast and works in all browsers)

2. Embed a video from any site like YouTube, Vimeo, Lightcast, etc.

3. Embed a video you’ve already added.

It really is pretty cool. You also have a couple choices of how the video will be viewed… Whether or not you want it shown in your site, or as another window. You can also make it available for download if you’d like.

If you’d like to try it out, by all means please do! Click here to demo everything.

Thank you thank you thank you! I was just showing clover to my friend. I was telling him how “one day” we will be able to play videos…and as I was saying that I got an email from you guys, saying that video is now ready! I was pumped.

I love the interface, it is EASY to use, works great. Wish I could post a thumbnail instead of a text link…but that’s no big deal.

Great job guys, keep it up!

Totally dig the video player. Very sweet.

Now I’m just waiting for podcasting. :o )

Is there specific file format, size, compression that will give best results (when choosing the load from computer option)? Or does it not matter?

Jason said on October 8th, 2008:

Hey Milan (and thanks for the encouragement btw!)

Long story short – it shouldn’t matter what video you upload. Once we convert them, all videos end up with the same dimensions, and compression anyway.

Here’s a help document on this issue which should help clarify.

The only time that you might see a difference is if your original video was of a drastically lower quality than the converted result.

I hope that helps and thanks again for the kind words!

I couldn’t find an example of what the video player would look like in one of your sample sites (I did see how I’d add video in the “edit” view). Is there a sample site which has a sample of how it would look and function?

Hey Todd,

All of our site demos now contain videos although some of them can be hard to find.
Here is a list of our current demos the first couple of which I listed the pages on which videos can be found.

Hope this helps!

* West River (videos on: About Us -> Our Causes; Ministries -> Childrens, Students, Spanish; Messages;)
* Psuche (videos on: Gatherings; Mission; Our Story -> Our Causes; Our Message; Ministries -> Youth;)
* … (edited list; see http://www.cloversites.com for a current list)

The new video feature is great and really well done. Are you going to add the capability on the sermon player that will allow us to add a video option as well as audio to the sermon files? And when do you think the podcast will also be a feature on the sermon player?

Keep up the great work! We love the Greenhouse and how user friendly it all is.

Alison said on October 17th, 2008:

Hey Mark… Thanks for the question. Yep, our development team is planning a super cool re-vamp of the sermon player to make it more of a media player with both audio & video player, podcasting capabilities, and more. We don’t have a specific date to promise… you know us, we’d rather take a little time to make it an awesome feature that’s super intuitive to use. But as soon as we add it, we will update it to your Greenhouse.

Thanks for the props!
